The Comcast broadband install went pretty well. Despite having previous Comcast cable service they installed a new drop. They ran the drop into my home office and worked with their tech support to turn up the cable modem. I purchased a Motorola Surfboard SB5101 rather than lease the hardware from Co...

All, Comcast now has Broadband available in Cedar Ridge. Only 2 options are available online, but more are available by calling 1-800-Comcast. I signed up for Blast package that advertises download speed up to 20Mbps with monthly download cap of 250 Gig. I am happy with my current Sonnet wireless (p...

I just had Sonnet Wireless Broadband installed. In order to get signal, Motherlode Tree Service put the antenna at the very top of my tallest pine. I have run the speedtest and I am getting 2.98Mps download and .95Mps upload. I tested VPN and it works great. I am totally thrilled. Thanks for the ref...

A few questions:

1. Have you run speed tests to check download and upload speeds? The email I received from Sonnet stated download speed UP TO 3M and upload speed UP TO 1M.

2. Does speed vary due to busy hour time of day?

3. Have you used service to VPN into work?

Thanks,
Rick

Thanks Rob, Line of site to Mt. Elizabeth is the same requirement as Motherlode Internet wireless ISP. I have had 2 site surveys on my Broken Pine address and been told they could not provide the service. BTW, ATT says that 3G service is coming to the area and equipment is currently being installed....

Rob, Satellite internet is fundamentally not compatible with VPN. My employer provided me with an SSL VPN application that was compatible with satellite but the transmission speed is determined by your upload speed. I purchased Wild Blue's top package which advertised 1.5 M download and 256K upload....

Let me know the results of your Sonnet survey. I've had Mother Lode Internet survey my property twice as they offer a wireless "high speed" internet service. I was told line of sight to their transmission towers was needed (one of their towers is on Mt Elizabeth). I'm dying for an alternat...

 Jay, I just installed Wild Blue satellite at my home in Cedar Ridge. I opted for the premier package that advertised 1.5Mbps download and 256 Kbps upload speed. I was intending on replacing my expensive ISDN service. Although WB doesn't support VPN, my company IT had a SSL version of VPN desig...

It's not that bad. The outages of edge service on AT&T are infrequent, maybe a few times a year. It's reporting them that is a pain. The usually last a few days.

Josh, I also live on Broken Pine Road and have been using a Blackberry for work to receive email for years. I also reported the recent EDGE outage to AT&T and waited about 5 days for resolution. I have reported several outages to AT&T over the years and each event requires an investment of t...
